Atop the southern edge of the Plateau de Vaucluse, Gordes is a terrific town that many travelers have found to be a favourite. A real highlight is the lookout point just before you enter the town, where you can take a photo of the city from across the valley. For many, this is one of the best shots they capture in France! To get there follow the signs to Gordes, then as soon as you see a white sign for “Gordes”, keep your eyes peeled for a blue LOOKOUT sign on the right. Pull into the parking lot and hop out for this photo op! Then head back out to the road and continue towards the city.
As you get to the roundabout in the center of town, take the left exit that continues up the hill. On your left you will find parking for 3euro/day. If you’re with a smaller group, check out the patio on the Café Republic and enjoy one of the best views in Gordes along with a refreshing beer. Taking the route touristique through Fontaine de Vaucluse is a great way to see the country side of the Luberon Valley. On the way out, check out the picturesque Abbaye de Senaque, a 13th century monastery where monks are still living today. When the lavender is in season, you’ll have gorgeous opportunities for photos only about 5 minutes from Gordes. You needn’t spend much time exploring the monastery (there’s not much to see inside), but you’ll get great photos outside.
