Rising high on a hilltop, Bonnieux is most recognizable by its two churches:  Eglise Haute, or Vielle Eglise, the 12th century building with a high pointed steeple that is perched at the top of the hill, and Eglise Neuve, built in 1870 sitting on the slope near the lower village.  To visit the Elgise Haute, climb the 86 steps up through the town, beneath arches and through narrow streets, and you’ll earn the magnificent view above.  Overlooking orchards, vineyards and countryside dotted with medieval villages, it’s sure to leave you breathless.  Nearby, recreationalists will love the excellent hiking and cycling opportunities.  Not far east of the village you’ll see signs for the Fôret de Cèdres (cedar forest) that is filled with great hiking trails.  Cyclists can take advantage of its location of the Luberon en Vélo cycling path that runs 100kms between Cavallion and Forcalquier.
